Ever since Lady Antebellum released a behind-the-scenes clip of their ‘Wanted You More’ music video, we’ve been anxious to see the finished product. Although the initial clip showed us some fiery scenes of lead singer Hillary Scott walking away from a burning piano, it didn’t prepare us for the intensity of the full video.
Hunter Hayes might be all about country, but that didn’t stop him from crossing genres and helping indie rockers the Flaming Lips try to break a Guinness World Record. This week, the Lips started out on a short tour to top the record for Most Shows Played in 24 hours (Multiple Cities) by playing eight shows with a slew of special guests. Hayes helped out at Benny’s Boom Boom Room in Hattiesburg, Miss. earlier today (June 28), where he laid down this live version of ‘Somebody’s Heartbreak,’ complete with rockin’ guitar solo, in conjunction with the 2012 O Music Awards.
Whether you love NASCAR or not, everyone knows that Danica Patrick is the fastest female driver around. In fact, Patrick has risen to racing star status by being one of the more successful female drivers in history. Really, who would be a better pick to star in Miranda Lambert‘s ‘Fastest Girl in Town’ music video? After several hints by the country star and the racing phenom on Twitter, now we know that Patrick snagged the lead role in Lambert’s forthcoming clip.
Carrie Underwood celebrated a lot of firsts last week. Not only did the country superstar play her first headlining gig in the U.K. when she took the stage at Royal Albert Hall in London, but it was there that she tacked a beautiful country music version of Coldplay‘s ‘Fix You’ onto her setlist.
Taylor Swift has been a fan of James Taylor’s music ever since she was a little girl. And she should be — after all, Swift’s parents had the soulful folk-rock singer in mind when they named their baby girl. The 22-year-old country superstar especially adores Taylor’s hit ‘Fire and Rain,’ and lucky for her, the ‘Mean’ hitmaker will have the opportunity play a few tunes — and maybe even her favorite song — with James Taylor at the iconic Tanglewood venue in Massachusetts on July 2.
Jay DeMarcus is no one-trick pony. In addition to being a mega-talented bassist and vocalist for Rascal Flatts, DeMarcus is about to flex his radio personality skills, too. The Nashville star has landed his very own radio show, ‘The Jay DeMarcus Show: Live From Flatts Shack’ on iHeartRadio’s Big Machine channel. The 60-minute program will debut on Thursday, June 28.
Every year, the CMA Songwriters Series travels to select cities to showcase the best troubadours in country music. This year, the program will include country music darling Carrie Underwood, who will get to make her first-ever appearance at the event in Boston on July 31. Underwood and other presenters will take turns giving raw performances of their most popular songs, and telling the stories that lie behind their hits.
Since releasing their self-titled debut album in 2009, country music trio Gloriana has quickly become a break-through artist. And they have an awards shelf at home to prove it, too. The year they dropped their first album, they scored an American Music Award for Breakthrough Artist, and in 2010, won Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Vocal Group. But since then, things have been a little quiet for band members Tom Gossin, Mike Gossin and Rachel Reinhardt — but only for a few more weeks.
With his signature pigtail braids and hippie-inspired song lyrics, Willie Nelson doesn’t exactly seem like a golf guy. But once again, the legendary country icon surprised us by launching the first-annual Willie Nelson Celebrity Golf Tournament in Briarcliff, Texas, which will benefit the Pedernales Fire Department, the Helping Hands Crisis Ministry, the Children’s Music Foundation and the RunTex Foundation.
They might all sing with a country twang, but according to Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline all qualify for the Women Who Rock list. The countdown celebrates “50 of the fiercest albums that female rock & rollers have given the world,” and it includes Lady Gaga, Carole King, Lucinda Williams and — of course — Aretha Franklin, among others.
