There Will Be At Least Three More ‘Fast and Furious’ Movies
Earlier this week, it was reported that Justin Lin was being courted by Universal to return to the ‘Fast and Furious’ series after taking ‘Furious 7’ off and giving the director's seat to James Wan. It was also reported that his return would be be part of a two film “grand finale” that would send this beloved franchise driving off into the sunset. But that second part is just plain silly. Have you seen the box office receipts for these movies? So it should come as no surprise that the studio has “at least three” more Dominic Toretto and company adventures in the pipeline.
Our Worst Fears Realized; They’re Turning the Universal Monsters Into Superheroes
The likes of Dracula, Frankenstein and the Wolf Man have no business aping the Marvel “shared universe” structure in the first place. They're monsters! Let them monster! Any of our well-intentioned blogging-into-the-wind was too little, too late because the head of Universal has pretty much come and out said that they're taking the horror out of their horror icons.
Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Big Hero 6′ Have a Showdown
The showdown between 'Interstellar' and 'Big Hero 6' has got to be one of the most interesting things to happen to the box office in 2014. After all, it would be tough to find two movies that are simultaneously so different and so alike. Both are pro-science adventures that are all about using your intelligence to save your friends and family. However, one is an animated, family friendly release from Disney and the other is a three-hour epic from the ever-serious Christopher Nolan. In other words, they represent opposite ends of the blockbuster spectrum.
‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’ Final Trailer: The Middle-Earth Saga Goes Out With a War
The final 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' trailer has arrived and, well, it looks like another 'Hobbit' movie. If your faith in director Peter Jackson's vision of Middle-Earth remains unshaken, prepare to get excited. If the previous two films have muted your excitement for the series, prepare to see...more of the same.
‘Chappie’ Trailer: The Director of ‘District 9′ Presents a Family and Their Robot
What are we to make of the 'Chappie' trailer, which looks to promise a funny, thoughtful and original science-fiction tale about a robot who "grows up" in the South African slums? On one hand, it's from the director 'District 9.' On the other hand, that same man also directed 'Elysium.' The fact that the trailer name-drops the former and not the latter gives us hope that this is Neill Blomkamp returning to form after his sophomore misfire.
Hans Zimmer Will Return For ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Score With Help From Junkie XL
Even the most passionate critics of 'Man of Steel' tend to agree that Hans Zimmer's bombastic and emotional score is a highlight of the film, so it wasn't surprising at all when he was invited back to score 'Batman vs. Superman.' What is surprising is how he's choosing to go about it. In keeping with the confrontational aspect of the film, Zimmer will provide all of Superman's music and another composer will provide the score for the Caped Crusader.
Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Nightcrawler’ Edges Out the Competition in a Very Close Race
Although 'Nightcrawler,' the only new wide release of the week, did end up taking the top spot at the box office this weekend, it did so in one of the tightest races we've ever seen. The top six films all came within $3 million of each other and the order could have radically changed by a stiff breeze for all we know. Heck, some titles may get swapped around by tomorrow when the studios release some more official numbers.
‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1′ Final Trailer: Katniss Goes to War
The final trailer for 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' is here and it's strictly business. At just over a minute long, it's packed full of big emotions and even bigger explosions, never even bothering to pause and fill you in on the plot because it already assumes that you saw the first two movies. Yeah, this movie is going to be huge.
Tommy Lee Jones Hated Jim Carrey While Filming ‘Batman Forever’
Comic book fans surely remember the '90s. It was a strange time to be a superhero fan. A dark time. A time when Joel Schumacher was directing Batman movies and baffling the entire world. A decade before Christopher Nolan made 'Batman Begins,' Schumacher made 'Batman Forever,' which featured Jim Carrey as The Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face. No one remembers either performance fondly, but it turns out that there's some pretty interesting stories regarding their casting. It turns out that Jones did not like Carrey. Like, at all.
Marvel’s Phase 3 Films Officially Announced! Eight New Superhero Films Coming Through 2019
No one knew quite what to expect when Marvel Studios put together a very mysterious press conference, earlier today. But then Marvel honcho Kevin Feige took the stage and proceeded to not waste anyone's time. Are you ready for an eight-film "Phase Three" to follow in the aftermath of 'Avengers 2'? Well, you better be, because they've gone and announced titles and release dates.
Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Ouija’ Scares Up a Victory Over ‘John Wick’
It feels like common sense: of course the horror movie released a week before Halloween is going to win the weekend war at the box office over the action movie. And yet, most horror movies continue to get released as far away from the season of the witch as possible. Can the recent success of 'Annabelle' and this weekend's 'Ouija' change that?
‘SNL’ and Jim Carrey Take on Those Matthew McConaughey Car Commercials
Yeah it is a little strange that a newly minted Oscar winner like Matthew McConaughey would be caught dead making television commercials for Lincoln cars. However, it did lead to a series of fake 'SNL' commercials featuring guest host Jim Carrey playing the 'Dallas Buyers Club' and 'True Detective' star, so who are we to complain?
