‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Trailer Breakdown: Finding the Hints in the Light and the Dark
The first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi debuted this morning, and…wow, we’re gonna need a minute (or 20) to process, especially with Luke Skywalker’s suspenseful voiceover. We were promised we’d get to hear Mark Hamill speak, and speak he does — throughout most of the trailer, ending with a fairly chilling line: “It’s time for the Jedi to end.” But what does that mean?! Is Rey the eponymous last Jedi, or is Luke? That’s something we probably won’t know until December. For now, join us as we try to break it all down and take a closer look at the most thrilling (and possibly telling) moments with GIFs and screenshots from the trailer.
Big ‘Star Wars’ Announcement Teased for 40th Anniversary
Star Wars Celebration is set to kick off in just a few days, and with the 40th anniversary of the iconic franchise on the horizon, fans are expecting this year’s festivities to be extra special — but it looks like we won’t have to wait until later this week for major news from a galaxy far, far away. Good Morning America is teasing a big Star Wars announcement for tomorrow’s episode, but what could it possibly be? The first teaser for The Last Jedi? A revelation about one of your favorite characters?
Don Rickles, Iconic Comedian and Actor, Dead at 90
Don Rickles’ talents were seemingly limitless: An outrageous insult comic, a gifted dramatic actor, a welcome sight on stages and screens (big and small), and a constant presence whose career endured for decades, often surpassing his contemporaries. And now he’s gone on to join them, as the legendary Rickles passed away today, April 6, at the age of 90.
‘War Machine’ Trailer: Brad Pitt’s Here to Clean Up This Mess (Well, Maybe)
Probably the last thing you’d expect from the director of gritty Aussie crime drama Animal Kingdom, is a searing, Cohen brothers-level satire of the American war in Afghanistan — but that’s exactly what David Michod delivered with War Machine. In his new film, which premieres exclusively on Netflix, Brad Pitt stars in a not-so-subtle take on a certain four-star General who heads overseas to clean up a political mess, but despite his arrogance, he doesn’t leave things much different than he found them.
‘Dante’s Lunch’: Meet ‘Coco’s Dog in Pixar’s Newest and Cutest Animated Short
We usually have to wait until the newest Pixar film hits theaters to enjoy the latest Pixar short, but fans of the beloved animated studio won’t have to wait until this fall to see Dante’s Lunch… A Short Tail. Pixar has released their new short online a full eight months ahead of its theatrical debut, giving fans another sneak peek at the colorful world of Coco via the life of his endearing dog, Dante.
‘It’ Trailer: Stephen King’s Horror Classic Is Back to Haunt You Again
Horror fans have been waiting for months. Stephen King fans have been waiting for years. And after a week of teasers and sneak peeks, the first trailer for It, Andres Muschietti’s highly-anticipated adaptation of King’s classic horror novel (or one half of it, anyway) is finally here to give us our best look yet at that divisive new take on the iconic evil clown. Beep beep, we’re all gonna float.
What’s Leaving Netflix Instant: April 2017
Every month, as dozens of new titles are added to Netflix Instant’s vast streaming library (with even more possibilities for your endlessly indecisive scrolling), several movies and TV shows are taken away, spirited into the expiration ether. Now’s the time to stop procrastinating and do a little spring queue-cleaning by watching some of these titles before they disappear — possibly for good. Read on for a full list of what’s expiring from Netflix Instant in April.
Early ‘Rogue One’ Draft Featured Darth Vader Killing a Major Character
Even before those highly-publicized reshoots, Rogue One went through several story changes during development, which isn’t unusual for the majority of films, especially big blockbusters. Just yesterday we learned more details about the original, somewhat happier ending to the flagship installment in Lucasfilm’s A Star Wars Story series, but that was far from the only change made during the scripting stage.
‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Producer Says Tom Cruise Has Been Training for ‘Mind-Blowing’ Stunt for a Year
Watching the Mission: Impossible movies is like watching Tom Cruise engage in a series of escalating dares. Like the Fast and the Furious franchise, each new M:I movie features an increasingly bonkers stunt scene, made all the more impressive by Cruise’s dedication to performing his own stunts (or as much of them as humanly possible). It’s hard to imagine how Cruise and returning writer / director Christopher McQuarrie will outdo Rogue Nation’s riveting plane sequence, but according to the producer of Mission: Impossible 6, they have something “mind-blowing” up their sleeves. How mind-blowing? Well, Cruise has been training for the stunt for a whole year.
‘Alien: Covenant’ SXSW Footage: Three Scenes, Lots of Screams
“My mantra has always been to scare the living s— out of you.” Those were Ridley Scott’s final words before he unleashed three scenes from Alien: Covenant to a packed theater at SXSW last night. Scott was joined by stars Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender and Danny McBride at a special screening of his original Alien, preceded by a sneak peek at footage from Covenant. You’re warned of potential spoilers from here on out, but it’s doubtful that Scott, who seems very confident about his “quite clever” prequel, would allow us to see footage that gave away too much.
‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Concept Art Reveals Ghastly Sharks Ahead of Tomorrow’s New Trailer
After four films, you’d think Disney could come up with another villain for Pirates of the Caribbean besides water-logged ghosts. As it turns out, the fifth film does have something different to offer, sort of. New concept art for Dead Men Tell No Tales reveals a formidable addition to the spooky seas: Ghost sharks. Maybe we’ll see them in action in the new trailer, which arrives tomorrow.
‘Kong: Skull Island’ Trailer: We Gotta Get Out of This Place
Each new trailer for Kong: Skull Island offers a little more humor than the last, and in the final trailer for the King’s revival, it’s not just John C. Reilly who’s monkeying around. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Corey Hawkins also get a few comedic beats in during the latest sneak peek, which is cleverly set to The Animals’ “We Gotta Get Out of This Place.” And there are plenty of good reasons to get the heck off of that island.
