CMT unrolled the red carpet for their 2012 Music Awards nominations this morning, and it looks like Carrie Underwood is set to have quite the year, with a stunning total of five nominations. While Underwood is in the lead, tons of other country stars netted multiple nominations this year. Miranda Lambert is packing four — two for her solo work and two with first-time nominees Pistol Annies.
Alan Jackson has been the owner of some impressive real estate in his day. From his $28 million Williamson County estate — which he and his wife sold earlier this year to move to a gated community — to his $15 million, $19,000 Juniper Island, Florida estate — which is still on the market — Jackson and his wife seem to be simplifying as their daughters get older. And now, adding to the list of properties they have decided to sell this year, the Jacksons are putting their equally mind-boggling lakeside retreat on the market for $4,995,000.
Taylor Swift has been increasingly involved in film endeavors of late. The country megastar — who lists pal Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence among her actress role models — recently played the voice of Audrey in ‘The Lorax,’ made an appearance in 2010′s ‘Valentine’s Day’ and also almost snagged a part as Eponine in the new film adaptation to ‘Les Miserables.’ Now, it seems the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year might land a spot as another guitar-wielding superstar: Joni Mitchell.
Billboard just announced the finalists for their 2012 Billboard Music Awards, and several country acts were included in the prestigious list of nominees. The winners will be officially announced at the awards show Sunday, May 20 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand and will be accompanied by a live telecast on ABC at 8PM ET.
It’s no secret that Miranda Lambert is an absolute animal lover. The country starlet, who has dogs of her own and occasionally picks up irresistible strays on the side of the road, is also the founder of MuttNation. The foundation raises money to help build better animal shelters, increase pet adoption, fund spay and neuter programs and essentially do all kinds of things to better the lives of pets across the nation, as well as the lives of their owners.
This week, Reba McEntire technically became the second female country artist to ever sell more than 30 million albums. The first woman to do this was Shania Twain, who is currently considered the top-selling female country artist of all time with 34,175,000 albums sold, according to Perez Hilton.
We’ve seen Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw getting their inner rock star on in live performances of their current up-beat single ‘Feel Like a Rock Star,’ whether at the ACM Awards or on talk shows like ‘Ellen.’ But the one thing no one has yet seen is a music video for the hit single, which is currently sitting at No. 13 on Billboard’s Country Songs chart.
We previously reported that former country child protege Billy Gilman had united 18 of the biggest names in country music to sing on his song ‘The Choice.’ With the song, Gilman is teaming up with the organization Soles4Souls to bring shoes to kids across the globe who don’t have any. The artists are donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the song’s digital downloads directly to the cause. This week, Gillman released a music video to further the reach of the charitable single.
The Top 7 took the stage again tonight (April 18) on ‘American Idol,’ and this time they had to do two songs: The first, a post-millenium hit and the second an older, more soulful song. Taking on the challenge in full, country hopeful Skylar Laine bit off Lady Gaga‘s ‘Born This Way (Country Road Version).’ Spanning the gap between the country world and the pop realm, Laine brought it once again this week.
In February, we reported that legendary country outlaw Waylon Jennings‘ family had determined to celebrate the singer’s life and career with a new album of primarily unreleased material. This week, the release date and track listing of ‘Goin’ Down Rockin’: The Last Recordings’ was finally announced. Due out September 11, 2012, the record will feature 12 songs, 11 of which Jennings wrote.
Blake Shelton may not be a fan of all the background dancers and glitzy staging he sees on ‘The Voice‘ — and he’s taken a little flack for his critiques from fellow judges who insinuate that he just doesn’t appreciate the art of staging. But that doesn’t mean the country king can’t appreciate things outside his own genre. If there’s one pop craze to which Shelton unabashedly subscribes, it’s Justin Bieber.
