Though they're still working on script, and should start filming shortly  - even after releasing a teaser this summer - we only have a small inkling of what's in store for us when 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' hits theaters next year. But now the picture has a release date, and it means only one thing: Will Ferrell is gunning for an Oscar.

'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' is now set to open on December 20, which means it's opening in the Oscar sweet spot as it will have a qualifying run for the 2014 ceremonies. Sure, this year's same week is seeing pictures like 'The Guilt Trip' and 'Jack Reacher' hit screens, but this weekend is also launching 'This is 40,' 'Amour,' 'Zero Dark Thirty' and 'The Impossible,' all of which either are gunning for awards, or at one time had hopes of getting them (looking at you, 'This is 40').

What we do know is that the film will likely co-star Oscar nominee Kristen Wiig alongside the returning cast, and that there will be musical numbers of some kind or another -- just like this year's like Oscar hopeful 'Les Miserables.' Though the Academy has never given an out and out comedy the best picture trophy, perhaps 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' will change their minds. Or maybe it's just a good release date for a comedy. Either or.
