Adam Craig’s new lyric video for "Just a Phase" is dark and mournful, the perfect accompaniment to the somber tale within the song. On "Just a Phase," Craig comes to the harsh realization that his girl won't be around for too much longer.

"You don’t really love me / You just think that you do / I’m just a phase you’re going through / Someday soon baby / You’re gonna wake up and see / There ain’t never gonna be / A forever for you and me," he sings.

In the clip above, which is debuting exclusively via Taste of Country, Craig is shown alone in a dark room as he looks distantly out the window, singing about his relationship's eventual end. The bluesy track embodies a throwback feel with light electric guitar and Craig's smooth and soulful vocals.

Craig co-wrote "Just a Phase" with Jim Beavers and Lindsay Rimes. His latest single impacts country radio on Feb. 6, and is featured on his five-song, self-titled EP released in 2016. Craig has had a long journey as an artist, as the Washington native has been in Nashville for 10 years.

“If 10 years ago me looked at me now it’d be like, ‘Oh my God!'” Craig previously told Taste of Country of his long wait for a record deal. “I would have messed it up, definitely,” he adds, laughing. “I would have messed something up.”

The singer admits he might have been a prima donna had he signed a record deal as soon as he moved to town. Now, he’s willing to do the work, and it's paying off in the form of radio singles and bucket list performances. Craig is set to play at Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa on Friday (Jan. 20) and will make his Grand Ole Opry debut on Feb. 4.

Before Craig had his shot at radio, he had written songs for several country acts, including Parmalee’s Top 3 hit “Close Your Eyes,” Jason Aldean’s “Church Pew or Bar Stool,” Dustin Lynch’s “World to Me” and Love & Theft’s “Whiskey on My Breath,” among others. Now he is an artist selecting his own songs and is also featured in ToC’s RISERS Hot Seat Poll, which lets fans vote on which up-and-coming artists will become tomorrow's biggest stars.

Adam Craig, "Just a Phase" lyrics:

I’m a blackjack label, you’re a classy glass of red / So girl whatcha doing here tonight / Messin' up my bed

You don’t really love me / You just think that you do / I’m just a phase you’re going through

Someday soon baby / You’re gonna wake up and see / There ain’t never gonna be / A forever for you and me

Someday soon baby / You’re gonna look back and smile / That you got hooked on a guy like me / For a little while

Cause I’m a Friday nighter  / You’re a Sunday afternoon / I’m a reckless rock’n’roller
And you’re a last slow dance to a midnight tune

Deep in your heart I know you know I ain’t right for you / I'm just a phase you’re going through

Someday soon baby / You’re gonna wake up and see / There ain’t never gonna be
A forever for you and me

Someday soon baby / You’re gonna look back and smile
That you got hooked on a guy like me / For a little while

I guess I might be crazy / For lovin’ life / Baby until the last kiss from your lips tells me goodbye / I’m gonna lay right here
And pretend that it ain’t true / I’m just a phase you’re going through

Yeah, I’m just a phase / You’re going through / Girl I’m just a phase / You’re going through
