The Abilene Association of Realtors (AAOR) and the Salvation Army say they are "extremely happy with the number of Abilene area residents that participated in the Walk With Pride event". Shanda Tijerina the Public Relations Chairwoman for the Association says, "627 Children received brand new shoes and socks in time for for back to school".

627 area children between the ages of 5 to 12 received brand new shoes and socks from the Payless Shoe Source inside the Mall of Abilene. Walk With Pride has been a major event for the Abilene Association of Realtors (formerly known as the Big Country Association of realtors) for over 25 years running.

"The Association works hard through out the year, to raise the money needed to put on an program like this. We want every child in our community to be able to start out on the right foot" said Miss Tijerina. Pam Redman, a Realtor/member of the Abilene Association of Realtors has worked closely with the Salvation Army each year for the past 10 years to help provide less fortunate kids with shoes to start school with. Shanda says, "we have already begun planning for next year as the need will continue to grow like it's done for the last 25 years".
