Hunter Hayes might be all about country, but that didn’t stop him from crossing genres and helping indie rockers the Flaming Lips try to break a Guinness World Record. This week, the Lips started out on a short tour to top the record for Most Shows Played in 24 hours (Multiple Cities) by playing eight shows with a slew of special guests. Hayes helped out at Benny’s Boom Boom Room in Hattiesburg, Miss. earlier today (June 28), where he laid down this live version of ‘Somebody’s Heartbreak,’ complete with rockin’ guitar solo, in conjunction with the 2012 O Music Awards.

The O Music Awards are different from other awards shows in that they run for 24 hours straight in the form of a live-streamed and live-blogged bus tour through the south. The MTV bus rolls from Memphis to New Orleans — and everywhere in between — to give music fans across the southern states a chance to see unforgettable performances.

Taylor Swift and Blake Shelton are up for a few O Music Awards this year, but they aren’t the kinds of categories you’d expect. Swift was nominated for Fan Army FTW, which honors the most devoted fanbase, as well as Most Extreme Fan Outreach, which gives props to the star who has found the most innovative ways to thank his or her fans. Shelton is up for the Must-Follow Artist on Twitter award, which comes as no surprise to any of us who have experienced his hilarious tweeting.
